ABSTRACT

We propose to investigate and solve problems concerning local self-similar structure of fractal spaces, objects or processes, by methods of space-time conformal rescaling. This highly interdisciplinary objective explores interaction between apparently very different areas of mathematics and mathematical physics whose common denominator is the notion of conformal or quasiconformal structure: mathematical (complex) analysis and geometric measure theory, conformal and low-dimensional dynamics, (conformally invariant) stochastic models of importance in physics, multifractal analysis and turbulence. We propose to network in order to overcome fragmentation, to work cohesively towards extending and structuring ERA, to achieve scientific progress for the RTD of Europe.

The principal research personnel includes over 100 experts in 11 Teams, most of best in Europe and over 100 early stage and more experienced researchers. Young scientists from the Teams and from outside the network will be registered, even prior to appointments, and will receive scientific network advisers (co-advisoring) to promote their careers. We offer 220 person/month appointments for early stage and equally 220 for experienced researchers; we expect 50-80 researchers to be appointed. We shall provide activities in Teams (individual training, local seminars run cohesively in all the Teams) and on network-wide level (schools (10), workshops (8) and 3 large conferences), which would involve about 200 early stage and more experienced researchers. We propose an elaborated structure of management (network office in Warsaw, steering committee including scientific committee, industry advisory board, local management structures). We shall create a network web page for organisational and scientific information and communication. Lecture notes on the basis of the training activities and research results will be published.
