Proposal Abstract:

The main objective of the project is to develop a solid network of mathematical research in Eastern Europe by connecting 4 Centres of Excellence recognized by the EC by the call of 1999 (CLPP-BAS, Sofia; IM-PAS, Warsaw; EURROMMAT, Bucharest; Renyi, Budapest) with other centres from our region and from European Community, as a step  towards the integration of our research centres in some of the main European Networks in pure and applied mathematics. The co-operation will focus on exchanging ideas in fundamental research in several mathematical domains that have a solid tradition, are presently very active, and which have interdisciplinary connections and intersectorial applicability. The scientific problems addressed by our project are of a fundamental importance for scientific research in general and specially for several tematic priorities of the FP6: Information Society, Nanostructures, Models for Economy and Development. One of our priorities is to enhace the visibility of the research activity in mathematics in Eastern Europe and to integrate it in the emerging ERA. The project will allow to attain a normal level of scientific exchanges and cooperation among the participants.

The project is based on a large number of existing scientific cooperation agreements between the participants and intends to bring support for widening the contacts, their efficiency and impact. The size and composition of our network (9 workpackages, 64 reseach teams from 39 centres), the acknowledged results obtained up to now, will guarantee successful completion of the project.
